TURTLE AND THE TRADE WINDS

Presented by Sandpiper Productions

Turtle and the Trade Winds

In Turtle and the Trade Winds the puppeteer-actors create a moving and sensitive portrayal of thousands of years of engagement between the indigenous peoples of northern Australia and Indonesia. The story is seen through the eyes of an old woman and told in a series of vignettes to an inquisitive young child.

The central motif is the turtle, revered as a food source, a spiritual totem and a marker of the season’s.

It changes as it moves between the two countries, returning each year to lay its eggs and start the cycle again.

It is a touching – and at times humorous - portrayal of the ancient and significant ties between Indonesia and Australia. The poetic nature of the performance, as well as its strong conservation message, makes it both a rewarding cultural and educational experience for all age groups.

Turtle and the Trade Winds is a magical theatrical event that creates fascinating links between visual imagery, puppetry, dance and film.

The production has already performed in Surabaya in East Java, at the Ubud Writers Festival and on the Cocos - Keeling and Christmas Islands.

This is your opportunity to see it performed locally!
