$10,000 Infrastructure & Equipment Grant
to Improve Broome Telecentre
On 3rd February 2009, the Minister for Regional Development, Hon. Brendon Grylls MLA, announced a number of significant Royalties for Regions initiatives relating to the future development of the WA Telecentre Network. This included an announcement that a "one-off" Infrastructure and Equipment Grant of up to $10,000 would be made available to each Telecentre during the 2008/2009 financial year to assist Telecentres with projects that would upgrade and enhance their facilities and help position them to become "Community Resource Centres".
Broome Telecentre was successful in applying for the funds and used it to purchase several items. The major item was a Data Wiring Upgrade which was undertaken to improve the network cabling & power access for network components (router, computers, printers etc) with changes to the lines that allowed the relocation of the primary terminal and a new comm's box. Also purchased was a desk for the Reception Area, a Display facility including a pin-up board & wall display area for brochures etc. and a Laptop.
The Royalties for Regions funding was made available to support minor capital works. The purchases that we made, particularly the network upgrade, will ensure that the maintenance & expansion of a professional community centre is within our reach in the years to come. The funding allowed us to to undertake improvements to our premises that will enable the Telecentre to deliver a greater range of services and position us to become a successful Community Resource Centre in the future.
