Locals recognised during Disability Awareness Week

15 Dec 11

Long-term Broome resident Peter Moore was congratulated for his outstanding voluntary contribution during a special morning tea at the Shire’s function room during Disability Awareness Week earlier this month.

Representatives of local organisations were invited to the morning tea, including deputy Shire president Anne Poelina, who presented Mr Moore with a certificate of appreciation for his 10 years’ service and a Shire of Broome shirt with his name embroidered on it.

Another remarkable young man was recognised during the event for lending his valuable skills.

Computer whiz Jesse Derne, 21, who suffers cerebral palsy, recently joined Broome’s Community Resource Centre to help develop their website.

He has worked with the Shire of Broome and Goolarri Media and also studied for a business certificate from the Kimberley Training Institute.
